Studio

Hi, we’re Em & J,

Em is the inspiration and J is the designer and developer.
The freelance design studio was started after spending time learning the craft of web design and development and encountering a number of processes and tools that promised amazing websites that could be delivered in no time at all to attract countless visitors.

Well, the reality is that good design takes time and consideration and what might seem grand and appealing at first glance can appear dull and un-inspiring on repeated visits.

That’s why we feel it’s important to spend the required time from the outset to build an inventory of what will be needed to achieve your objectives and ambitions because each website is unique and it is this together with its character that will attract the right kind of visitors again and again whether it’s a blog, portfolio or business.

Design Process

We can help you with producing a completely new website or re-designing an old website.

A search online for ‘how often should a website be re-designed’ reveals that it should be done at least every three years to keep pace with design trends and continue to look contemporary.

This gives a good impression that the website is being looked after and content is being updated which is what you will want in order to keep attracting visitors and customers and to help your identity and brand grow.

Planning

Every project starts with a strategy meeting where we discuss your personal or business goals and vision for the website and what you hope to achieve by having a web presence.

This will enable us to develop a site plan and proposal that will contain details about the design and development, including a schedule for how long it will take and the cost of the work.

If you approve the proposal an invoice for 50% is sent together with a service agreement for you to sign so that the project can commence.

Design

Initial research will comprise of selecting suitable fonts and a colour scheme that will underpin the look and feel of your website. In some cases lo-fidelity wireframes may be created of at least one page to show the placement of image and text elements.

Once you approve of the chosen design direction and depending on the scope of the project, a high fidelity wireframe will be created of the homepage that will allow you to see your website design begin to take shape and provide a clearer idea of its aesthetics and layout.

Development

It is during this phase that your website will begin to come to life.
The initial layouts and design direction are used to develop your website on SquareSpace or Webflow with interactions also being added at this stage.

You will be provided with a link to preview the work and, depending on the design package you choose, either one or two revisions can be made to your website. You will also need to purchase a domain name and choose a hosting plan in order to have the site go live, guidance will be provided on this so that you can purchase the right hosting plan for your needs.

Launch

When your website is prepared for launch, final checks are carried out with testing on a number of web browsers and computing devices. Additionally, search engine optimisation is configured to enable your website to start ranking inside search engine results on Google.

As your website will be hosted on either SquareSpace or Webflow, their services are optimised for speed and security and, once training is given, makes the process of managing and updating the website easy for you too.
