We use a dedicated design process and walk you through this in our introductory discovery meeting.
A questionnaire is filled out by you and this is discussed further to focus on points regarding your chosen design path and vision for the website.
Once you are happy with the direction and objectives of your project proposal, Em & J will commence work putting it all together.
We do not take your existing website and modify this as its design and code are the subject of permissions and copyrights held by the original designers and developers.
Instead, we can re-design an existing website from the ground up and, if permitted legally, re-use previous assets including images and text.
Once the designs of your website are approved by you we start development in either SquareSpace or Webflow. This is when the website begins to take shape and come to life.
To ensure correct functionality and responsiveness, the website will be tested on both mobile and desktop computing devices using a variety of modern web browsers.
One of the most important aspects of getting your website noticed in search results is how its settings for search engine optimisation or SEO are configured. This is a multi faceted area that begins with on page settings and particular keywords that will get visitors to click on your website link whether it is shown in Google or Bing.
Getting this aspect correct from the get go will ensure that your website begins to rank quickly and climb through search pages so that it will appear high in returned searches meaning more visitors for you.
Selling products online is one of many ways to help your business grow. We can help you design a shop component for your website and populate this with a range of products of your choice.
As the website prepares for launch, training will be given so that you can keep adding newer more exciting items to your shop which, in turn, will encourage customers to return to view your latest offerings that can convert to more sales.

It is important that all aspects of the design and development process are defined and conveyed to you in an honest and transparent way so that you can make a decision on whether we are a good fit and will be able to fulfil your project requirements.
Here are some of the more important questions you might have on your mind. As ever, please feel free to contact us using the link above should there be any further questions or clarification you might require.
Please take a look at our homepage where we discuss our design process. You will receive a website design questionnaire to fill out and return after which we will schedule a meeting with you to discuss your goals and aspiration for the website further.
This will depend on the size and scope of the project. We offer three different design packages as a starting point as shown on this page. After you return the website design questionnaire and together with our initial discovery meeting session we will have a better idea about the overall cost because you might decide to add optional extras such as an email marketing system so visitors can sign up to a newsletter or an e-commerce component to sell products. This content can then be updated and edited by you and you will be shown how to do this once the finished website is handed over.
Yes. You will need to pay for hosting on SquareSpace or Webflow, the platforms we use to build websites. This starts from about £12 a month if you pay annually. You will also need to purchase a domain name if you do not already have one. These aspects will be discussed with you further in our initial discovery meeting.
If your decide to hire someone to write the content for your website then you need to budget for this. Additionally, you might want to hire a photographer to produce images for your website, alternatively, you can source these from free and paid websites online. If you do use images from sources online you are responsible for ensuring you have the legal permission to use them on your website.
All content, text and images, will need to be supplied by you. Please also read ‘are there any other costs’. You may want to write all the content yourself, known as copy write, or hire someone to do this for you. You might also want to take photographs and provide these for your website or again hire someone to do this. You will need to ensure all content is proof read and that text and images are appropriately organised according to the page on which they will appear.
We use a variety of tools to design and develop your website. In some cases a prototype will be produced using Figma, which allows us and you to see what the website will look like before development begins. It is at this stage that aspects such as colour schemes, palettes and fonts can be decided along with the position of text and visual elements. Development then takes place on either SquareSpace or Webflow. The former allows a website to be up and running quickly by using highly customisable templates whilst Webflow can be used in the case of a fully bespoke design built from the ground up.
This really depends on the size of the project. Through discussions and meetings with you, we will have better understanding of your requirements and then be able to provide an idea of the estimated time it will take to produce your website. Communication is key and the quicker you respond with feedback to any questions we have and approve design decisions, the faster your website will take shape. As a guideline, our package pricing section highlights that a one page website can be produced within one week whereas a fully bespoke custom designed website with up to 5 pages will take between 4 to 5 weeks.
No. Although some other companies and freelancers offer this service we decided not to. We feel too much of the design process is compromised and rushed in order to launch a website in a day. To produce a beautiful functional site requires time and effort to decide on important aspects such as colour schemes, fonts, images and other assets. The layout for these elements is important too and effects and animations should not appear overwhelming or disorientating. That is why our starter one page website option takes a week, or 5 working days, to produce with you having the option of a revision to change any aspect so that you are happy with the final result.
Our primary focus is on individuals and small businesses wanting to build a web presence with a modern, efficient and attractive website. As a small team we want to ensure that due care and attention is given to each project and we really take our time to understand the needs and aspirations of our clients.
The reason we chose SquareSpace and Webflow as our website builders is because the need to carry out any routine updates or maintenance are done by them and not you. Both offer a robust and secure platform on which to host and showcase your website to the world.
This gives you time back to continue with the important aspects of running your business or meeting new clients which can convert to more sales and website visitors and help your vision and brand grow.

The right logo will go a long way to attracting visitors to your website. Moreover, a choice of consistent and coherent fonts and colours to represent your brand and vision will show your professionalism and commitment to your portfolio, product or service.
We can help you craft each of these aspects because getting this correct from the get go will ensure customer satisfaction and repeat visits and leave a positive and lasting impression that will help your brand grow.
